Keymap

A complete shortcut reference for the Mirror tool. The tool keymap is only active while Mirror is the active tool, so these keys never clash with the rest of Blender.

Activation

Alt+X toggles the Mirror tool and works in both Object Mode and Edit Mesh. The first Alt+X remembers the tool you came from; pressing it again returns you there.

Key Action
Alt+X Toggle the Mirror tool (Object Mode and Edit Mesh)
Alt+X again Return to the previous tool
Esc Return to the previous tool (Tool Fallback)

If no tool was remembered, returning drops you to the Select Box tool.

While the tool is active

These keys fire only when Mirror is the active tool.

Key Action
Space Pick a Custom plane (interactive picker)
Q Cycle Orientation to the next option
E Cycle Pivot to the next option
Esc Return to the previous tool

Object-mode gizmo clicks

The gizmo shows six axis arrows — Red = X, Green = Y, Blue = Z. Each direction has two clickable targets.

Click Action
OUTER arrow Add a brand-new Mirror modifier to the end of the stack
INNER box Toggle the axis on a single pinned Mirror modifier
Yellow arrow (Collections) Instance the whole collection, mirrored, via an empty

Clicking an active INNER axis again cycles its bisect/flip and eventually removes it; when all axes are off, the pinned modifier is deleted.

See Gizmo Interface for the full breakdown.

Edit-mesh gizmo clicks

In Edit Mesh the gizmo sits on the mirror plane derived from your selection.

Click Action
HANDLE (arrow) Mirror the selection (symmetrize selected geometry)
DOT (box) Mirror the full mesh

Custom-plane picker keys

The picker is a modal you enter with Space or the eyedropper Pick button. Aim at any visible mesh; the element under the cursor is highlighted and a plane preview appears.

Input Action
Move mouse Snap to the element under the cursor
Tab Cycle what the pick writes: Orientation+Pivot / Orientation / Pivot
LMB or Space Confirm the pick
RMB or Esc Cancel

Confirming stores the picked values and switches the matching popover(s) to Custom. Values are stored separately for Object and Edit mode. See Custom Plane for details.

A note on reversed controls

Reverse Controls (in Options & Preferences) swaps the + and - directions of the gizmo, so an arrow that mirrored +X now mirrors -X. None of the keys above change — only the axis directions flip.

That wraps the reference. Head back to the Quick Start to put it all together.
